  1. You want it in writing and if that company won’t give you exact specifics in writing, RUN!
  2. If they will give it to you, make them note on the contract that if they do not fulfill this exact advertising schedule, that you will get a full refund within 10 days from the show.
  3. If they won’t put that on the contract RUN!

    You are relying on that show promoter to give you what you bought. It is called DELIVERING the GOODS! If you knew that they were not going to deliver what you thought you were buying, you would not buy it, would you?

    The Maricopa County Home Shows has a very specific advertising schedule, down to exact counts. We always give our potential vendors our exact advertising schedule, in writing, and we back it up with an email each day leading up to the show noting what advertising is going on that day, once again in writing to make sure you know where your money is going!

  1. Beware of any company that is new to the market without a solid track record.

    The Maricopa County Home Shows has been in business for 19 years, producing successful home shows in Maricopa County for ALL 19 years, and has never had to cancel a show for any reason.

How do they screen who exhibits at their show? AZROC (AZ Registrar of Contractors) or BBB (Better Business Bureau)?

  1. The promoter should always screen each vendor to verify all companies exhibiting are reputable. This also will put you on an equal bidding field if your competitors have to go through the same qualifications to be in business and exhibit at the show. There is nothing more frustrating to spend the time bidding on a project and losing to a non-licensed contractor.

    The Maricopa County Home Shows screens every exhibitor first through the AZROC to make sure they are in good standing. If they do not need a license, we then go to the BBB. They must be in good standing or they cannot exhibit at the Maricopa County Home Shows.

  1. If the deposit has not been paid, do NOT sign up to do that show.

    When a confirmation is made to hold an event at a facility, a contract is signed and a deposit is made-IN ADVANCE.

  1. If they keep moving their show dates from month to month, there is a reason, and it is usually because it was not successful. Whatever they may tell you, if a show is successful, the facility will not want to move the dates; they make money too when the show is successful! They don’t want to lose revenue.

    The Maricopa County Home Shows has always kept our dates within a few weeks (except for moving the first July Home Show from the AZ State Fairgrounds Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum (400 booths max), to the AZ State Fairgrounds other buildings (same as Jan Show location) over 1000 booths…we out grew the building and had to move!

  1. BIG RED FLAG! This means due to lack of interest from exhibitors, and booth sales, they had to cancel. Why would that happen? Only because past exhibitors would not re-sign because the show was so poorly attended.

    The Maricopa County Home Shows has never cancelled a show or skipped a year of doing that show in all 19 years in business. There is no other home show promoter producing home shows in the Phoenix Metro area who can say that.

  1. Be very careful of any out of state company. How do you get a hold of them after the show if their office is out of state and you have an issue? Out of state companies are not in touch with the local market or local home improvement issues.

    The Maricopa County Home Shows is local. All of our employees live and work in the Phoenix community, meaning our income and money all stay in AZ! You can find us, before, during and after each show working very hard to help exhibitors generate as much business as possible from the home shows. We are personally vested in each company’s satisfaction and success. We always encourage exhibitors to stop by our office and visit us/check us out. We are open M-F 8am to 5p. Please stop by and say hello!

  1. There is nothing better than a company who can give you the real goods!

    We did not become the largest home show in attendance and exhibitors by working alone, it was exhibitors and homeowners who spread the word that the Maricopa County Home Shows are the biggest and best.

  1. Who better to ask than a past customer? If they will not give you the whole list to call, that YOU choose to call, RUN from that Show.

    Our last show list of exhibitors is always up and readily available for anyone to view until the week before the next show, when we put the new one up. We leave the past show up so long because homeowners will refer back to that list to find customers they had spoken to at the show.

  1. If they do not give you the actual list of exhibitors who have already signed up, RUN! They won’t give it because they don’t have a list.

    The Maricopa County Home Shows always keeps 5 lists (5 individual shows) of who is already signed up for any particular show we produce. We have the list going 6 weeks after the show takes place. That’s right, almost a year in advance; because we have so many exhibitors who re-sign for next years show that far ahead to reserve their space. Please ask for a list before you sign up for our show…we print it because it is true and we back it up in writing.

  1. If not, something is fishy!

    We have every exhibitor’s contract and proof of payment kept in binders at our office. If you would like to come in and view them, please stop by any time, no appointment is necessary, we have an open book policy so you know you paid the same rate for the same booth configuration as your competitor. No last minute deals are made. We thank our exhibitors who sign up a year in advance with us; we would never disrespect them by offering someone else a deal at the last minute.

  1. This is the biggest trap exhibitors fall for, by far! The old adage of you get what you pay for could not be more true here. A show promoter will only discount booths if they can’t sell them. If they cannot sell them, they have no budget to advertise the way they should. Not only is it wrong to charge different prices for the same configuration booth, it is unethical.
  2. Every company starts out with a budget, if you have to cut from the budget, where does it come from?

    From Employees? Nope, you still have to pay your people to do the work or you can’t sell the booths.

    From the facility you are renting to hold the event? Nope, facilities do not discount their rates. From monthly expenses to run their business? Nope, these are hard costs that do not ever go away. It’s called keeping your doors open. From the last thing that show promoter pays for before the Show? YES! ADVERTISING AND MARKETING TO BRING YOUR CUSTOMERS TO THE EVENT SO YOU CAN GENERATE BUSINESS? This is going back to question 1- If you knew that they were not going to deliver what you thought you were buying, you would not buy it, would you?

    The Maricopa County Home Shows does not discount our booths. If we did, we would not have the budget to do the massive advertising that we do. Refer to #11, you can come into our office at any time and audit our exhibitor books.

To ensure a quality show where the consumer can shop with confidence, all Exhibitors are screened through the AZ Registrar of Contractors and/or the AZ Central Better Business Bureau.
